Amnesty International's Global Day of Action

On July 12th, 2008, communities throughout the world gathered in celebration and in solidarity around the idea that every human being has the right to be treated with dignity and respect. In London, Mexico City, Johannesburg, Washington DC, Seoul and two dozen other cities, artists, activists and supporters of Amnesty International "Circled Up" to form into more than 24 aerial art images in 24 hours. Covered by over 70 television and print news outlets worldwide, Amnesty International teamed up with Marc and his team to deliver this memorable series of "visual petitions.”

Nelson Mandela in South Africa

In celebration of Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday, and in support of the Every Human Has Rights campaign championed by The Elders (led by elder statesmen Desmond Tutu, Jimmy Carter, Kofi Annan and Mary Robinson), Marc's team traveled to Johannesburg, South Africa, and choreographed over twenty-two hundred students into a large-scale human aerial art piece, depicting Mandela with his fist held high. Along with the message "Freedom From Hunger,” they surrounded the image with one of the world's largest 'Ubuntu' drumming circles. A week later Marc and his team returned to the schools and presented each student with their own photograph of the image they helped create. News outlets throughout Africa covered the story and incredible images.

Martin Luther King Jr. in Memphis

The second image in Marc and John's Icon series was a beautiful tribute to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. On the Mississippi riverfront of Memphis, Tennessee, Marc and his team helped Amnesty International and its supporters unite to honor local civil rights heroes by forming into an aerial art image depicting Dr. King’s likeness along with the words, “Keep the Dream Alive.” The event was covered by over 20 television and print news outlets.
